Elder Board 2017: Marc West, David denHartog, Larry Neutzler, Jason Tennison, Bobby de la Garza, Jerry Forsythe, Rodney Bryant, Dean Elliott
The Elder Board is a volunteer, nominated position. They serve as a group by making governing decisions regarding our church. They serve individually in many different areas. You may read their bios (below) to learn more about each of them.
I grew up in Rio Vista. I graduated from high school in 1966 and met my wife, Linda, in 1967. We have been married 45 years. We have two children and 4 grandchildren. We made our home in Rio till 1994 when we moved to Lake Granbury. In Feb. 2008 we moved back to Cleburne and after visiting several churches felt God would have us serve at CBC. We joined CBC in the fall of 2008. I was raised up in church but had never given my heart to God till I was 22 years old. It was during a revival service on Thursday night that I felt God’s call to salvation through His son, Jesus. My wants and desires changed that day. The journey God has led me on has been good and exciting. I led Crown Financial class, work with needs of our members, and look forward to whatever God has in store for me.
I put my trust in Jesus Christ at a very early age. My parents believed and loved the Lord, they helped to facilitate my faith and churchmanship. I caught from them a passion and loyalty to Jesus and His church that still orients my life and to them I am deeply grateful. From the beginning of my faith I have sought to enlist and encourage others to see the great treasure found in the gospel of Christ. I oriented my education to be in full time ministry, listening and following the council of my mentors, hoping the Lord would help me to accomplish the work He had for me to do. His first act of provision was helping Vicki to trust me in marriage. The following years He has blessed us with two wonderful children who love the Lord and have become faithful in serving His church. My greatest joy has been enabling Vicki, Ben, and Bethany to know, trust and serve our Lord.
We came to Cleburne Bible Church in the summer of ’99. It was providential. The scriptures became alive to us. Our confidence in the power and authority of God’s Word began to resonate in us. I had much to change and unlearn, for many of my former mentors had given me inaccurate teaching. I am most grateful to Pastor David and Dean for taking us in and helping us to experience the grace of Christ. Grace really does make a difference.
Bobby de la Garza
I came to faith one month before my 28th birthday in Corpus Christi, Texas. Even though I had attended church all my life, I came to the realization that I had “religion” but I did not have a relationship with Jesus Christ. I thought I was a good guy because I attended church. The Lord revealed that my “righteousness” was like filthy rags compared to Christ. I wept and repented before the Lord. He gave me a new life! Passing the baton of Christianity to our next generation is important to me. I serve in Childrenʼs Ministry by teaching 4th & 5th grade boys during the 10:00 a.m. service. I enjoy challenging them to read their Bibles and to apply Godʼs word to their lives. I want to help them understand that the Bible applies to their lives on a daily basis, so we discuss things such as why itʼs important to say no to drugs before they are offered to you; what do you do when you encounter a bully at school; what does the Bible say about obeying parents; what about evolution? Children are important to God, so they are included in my busy schedule as owner of a successful auto dealership, involvement in several civic organizations, volunteering in many areas of ministry and mission trips abroad. Busy? Yes! But the need is great. Will you join the team and help us reach the children of this community and church for Christ? I am blessed to serve!
I was born in Arlington Texas and spent the majority of my childhood in the Whitney, Texas area. I had always attended church as child, but my relationship with God was not something I pursued daily. As time went on, I continued to go about my life and push God to the back burner. In May of 1990, I married my beautiful wife, Vicki, and we began to start our family. I did not fully rely on God even then. As my marriage began to fall apart and my life began to feel empty, I felt a calling on my heart. I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior in the summer of 1995. Since then, the Lord has worked to rebuild my marriage and provide me with the means to lead my family as a man of God. He has also given me opportunities to serve and minister at work, at church, and with various people that come into my life.
My wife, son, and daughter began attending Cleburne Bible Church in 2007. It was a great step that has allowed our family to grow spiritually. We have grown closer as a family and as believers in Christ. The community and fellowship that we have participated in has taught our family to value others and work to further the Kingdom. We are blessed by the community, the friends, and Grace that Cleburne Bible Church has. I am so thankful to serve on the Elder Board and as part of the Greeter Team as well.
These Elders have served on the Elder Board in years past, some are still leaders in the church body and some have moved to other churches. Each were instrumental in the life of Cleburne Bible.
