I was raised in the Midwest in a Christian home, but did not personally trust in Christ until I was a freshman in college under the ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ. I took my first steps of Christian growth in that ministry and in the process began to sense the tug of God on my heart for vocational Christian ministry with an eye on church planting and the pastorate.
After graduating from the University of Iowa in 1970 I headed to Dallas, Texas where I was granted a Th.M. degree at Dallas Theological Seminary in 1974. It was during my years in Dallas that I met my wonderful wife, Beth, and we were married in 1972 and began partnering in ministry. The years subsequent to my graduation took us back to my home state where I served as a youth pastor for 2½ years in Sioux City, Iowa and then joined four families in the rural community of Allison, Iowa to plant a church in which God worked in marvelous ways to bless that ministry. I remained as pastor of that church for five years and then received a call to pastor Cleburne Bible Church where I remain to the present. In 1998 I received a doctorate in ministry from Phoenix Seminary.
Beth and I have five children, two of whom are married, and eight grandchildren. We enjoy spending time with our family and a variety of pastimes including leisurely bike riding and reading. Travel for ministry purposes has taken us to Asia, Europe, and Africa. Our favorite travel experiences have been our trips to Israel which have made the Scriptures come alive to us in new and fresh ways. Beth and I continue to be excited about ministering in Cleburne Bible Church.
We have a wonderful staff and church leadership team and a congregation of people that love and serve others. The church is alive and we are by His grace growing together in our love for Christ. We would take joy in having you come for a visit and if God leads, to be part of us!
