Dean Elliott teaches from Matthew 7:1-6, which begins the application portion of the Sermon on the Mount, after Jesus has finished expanding on the Beatitudes. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus is speaking to the disciples about how to fish for other people. Prayer that works is an important necessity to fishing for people. Your prayer works if you connect with Jesus and it gets your eyes off of stuff and toward the real treasure of heaven – people. When investing in people, we see three applications in this passage: do no harm; take an honest appraisal of you; not everyone will respond well to your story.
